Data Retention Policy
UnoLock Data Retention Policy
1.1 Introduction
Techsologic Incorporated (Corporation Number 734340-0, headquartered at 150 Elgin Street, 8th Floor, Ottawa, ON K2P 1L4, Canada), provider of the UnoLock platform, including all services, features, applications, and websites (collectively, the "Services"), establishes this Data Retention Policy to govern the storage, retention, and deletion of user data, including User Content and transactional information, for all users ("you," "your," "user"), including LegacyLink nominees, as defined in Section 3 (Services Overview) of the UnoLock Terms of Service ("Terms"). This policy, incorporated into the Terms, available at https://www.unolock.com/tos.html, aligns with our principles of Absolute Anonymity and Payment Anonymity, ensuring minimal data retention and compliance with Canadian law (PIPEDA), GDPR, HIPAA, and other regulations, as per Section 17 (Compliance with Privacy Regulations) of the Terms.
1.2 Overview
UnoLock's zero-knowledge architecture ensures that Techsologic Incorporated ("Techsologic," "we," "us," or "our") cannot access User Content stored in vaults, as per Section 9.2 (Zero-Knowledge Architecture) of the Terms. This policy outlines retention and deletion timelines for vaults and transactional data across service tiers (Free, Inheritance, Sovereign, HighRisk), ensuring transparency and user responsibility for data management, as per Section 5.3 (Data Management) of the Terms. Data deletion is irreversible, and users must maintain external backups to prevent loss, as per Section 5.3.
1.3 Retention Guidelines by Service Tier
Retention and deletion of vault data depend on the service tier, as detailed in Section 3.3 (Pricing Tiers) and Section 3.6 (Unpaid Subscriptions and Vault Expiry) of the Terms:
Free Tier:
- Retention Duration: Vaults are retained for two (2) years from the date of last access or activity (e.g., login, data modification, messaging).
- Deletion Policy: Inactive vaults are permanently deleted after two years without notice or recourse, due to the anonymous nature of the Free tier, as per Section 9.3 (No PII Collection) of the Terms.
Inheritance, Sovereign, and HighRisk Tiers:
- Retention Duration: Upon payment failure or subscription expiry, vaults are retained for six (6) months from the initial payment failure or expiry date, allowing restoration upon payment, as per Section 3.6 of the Terms.
- Deletion Policy: Unpaid or expired vaults are permanently deleted after six months without recovery options.
You are responsible for maintaining activity or payments to prevent deletion, as per Section 5.7 (Engagement with Updates and Communications) of the Terms.
1.4 Regaining Access Post-Expiry
For paid tiers (Inheritance, Sovereign, HighRisk), you may regain access to a suspended vault within the six-month retention period by:
- Paying outstanding balances or renewing the subscription at prevailing rates, as per Section 3.5 (Payment and Billing) of the Terms.
- Contacting support@unolock.com or https://www.unolock.com/support.html to initiate restoration.
Access cannot be restored after deletion, and Techsologic cannot recover data due to our zero-knowledge architecture, as per Section 9.2 of the Terms. Free tier vaults cannot be restored post-deletion.
1.5 Transactional Information Retention
Transactional data (e.g., Stripe or Bitcoin payment details) is retained for financial and legal compliance, as per Section 9.4 (Payment Anonymity) of the Terms:
- Purpose: Retained for accounting, auditing, and compliance with financial regulations (e.g., Proceeds of Crime (Money Laundering) and Terrorist Financing Act).
- Anonymity: Data is isolated from vault contents and user identities, ensuring no linkage, as per Section 9.4.
- Retention Period: Retained as required by law (e.g., seven years under Canadian tax regulations), then securely deleted.
You must ensure payment compliance, as per Section 5.5 (Compliance with Laws) of the Terms.
1.6 Data Deletion
Deleted vault data is permanently and irreversibly removed using secure methods, preventing recovery by Techsologic or third parties, as per Section 6 (Data Security and Encryption) of the Terms. You are responsible for maintaining external backups, as per Section 5.3, to prevent unintended data loss. Techsologic is not liable for data loss due to deletion, as per Section 10 (Limitations of Liability) of the Terms.
1.7 Legal Compliance
Techsologic complies with Canadian and international regulations governing data retention, including PIPEDA, GDPR, and financial laws, as per Section 17 of the Terms. This policy ensures minimal retention while meeting legal obligations. You must comply with applicable laws, as per Section 5.5 of the Terms.
1.8 Policy Modifications
Techsologic may revise this policy, as per Section 14 (Modifications to Terms) of the Terms. Material changes will be notified via https://www.unolock.com/support.html with 30 days' notice, where feasible. Continued use constitutes acceptance, as per Section 14.5 of the Terms.
